A baby feels good and secure in the womb, so for this project I created a scene that mimics the gestation of a baby in the womb and I put myself in the water. I embody this baby. For me, it's a state of no responsibility and growth. Sonically, I use a countdown clock in order to create a contrast between the calm face in the water and this anxiety-inducing sound. I want to bring a sense of urgency.
In China, our generation is educated in such a way that excessive competition for success is an expectation of parents and a social straightjacket. The majority of Chinese society still believes that women should play the main role in the family. Therefore, women are asked to work hard in this tense society, but also to juggle family harmony and their children's lives. I have seen many women exhausted in following these rules, and even though it leaves them breathless, they try to follow the rules of the society: it gives them a sense of security. But at the same time, the overwhelming fear of isolating themselves from social rules corrodes that sense of security in their lives. Through this video, I hope to bring a reflection on the rules imposed on women, in terms of social life, family life and maternal life.
